Netflix will stream Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Canada — but not the U.S.

Variety reports that Netflix won't be streaming it in the U.S. thanks to the terms of an exclusive pact between Disney and the premium cable channel Starz, which covers Disney movies released through the end of 2015. Star Wars: The Force Awakens launches just 13 days short of that deadline.

That means Yanks who want to stream Star Wars: The Force Awakens will need a subscription to Starz. Movies show up on streaming services usually after their theatrical run is finished out. Netflix told Variety they get The Force Awakens eight months after it leaves theaters.

Netflix does have a deal with Disney to stream it's movies in the U.S., but that begins with 2016 movies. So Episode 8, which is slated for a May 2017 release, and Episode 9, due sometime in 2019, would be on Netflix (assuming the deal lasts that long).

Disney controls the rights to every Star Wars movie save the original, whose rights still are owned by 21st Century Fox.
